Speaker: Lewis J. Spellman
Professor of Finance and Interdisciplinary Professor of Law, McCombs School of Business

Professor Spellman is Professor of Finance and Interdisciplinary Professor of Law at the University of Texas where he has taught since l971. His
degrees are BBA, MBA from the University of Michigan and MA and PhD from Stanford University. He has also taught at UTs LBJ School of Public Affairs, Cal-Berkeley and Stanford University. His primary teaching is in financial markets and institutions at both the graduate and undergraduate level with an emphasis on interpreting and analyzing current market and
policy developments and market trends.
His outside academic background includes government service where he served as Assistant to the Chairman President’s Counsel of Economic
Advisers and was an Economist with the Federal Reserve Board. His published work primarily concerns the market pricing of financial
institution claims.
Professor Spellman’s business interests include serving as a Director and Chairman of Investments, Magna Carta Insurance Company. Previously he
served as Chairman and CEO of Real Rate Financial and Electronic Exchange Technologies. He holds several US Patents relating to financial
instruments in an inflationary environment.
