Event Description

Our meeting in November (11/17) will feature two authors—John Petersen and Penny Kelly— who have written provocative books about epochal changes they foresee in the 2020 + 10 year time horizon, and what we can do now to make things better then.
John Petersen is founder and CEO of the Arlington Institute (TAI), a non-profit, future-oriented research institute where he now edits and publishes FUTUREdition, an internationally acclaimed free email newsletter that tracks early indicators of potentially significant futures. He is best-known for writing and thinking about high impact surprises—wild cards—and the process of surprise anticipation and for having conceived of and developed the first national surprise anticipation system in the world for the government of Singapore. An award-winning writer, Petersen's first book, The Road to 2015: Profiles of the Future (1994), was awarded Outstanding Academic Book of 1995 by CHOICE Academic Review, and remained on The World Future Society's best-seller list for more than a year. His second book, Out of the Blue: How to Anticipate Wild Cards and Big Future Surprises (1997), was also a WFS best-seller. Petersen’s current book, A Vision for 2012: Planning for Extraordinary Change (2008), presents a systems approach for preparing for big change whether from the perspective of a government, organization or individual. Read a review of it here: Amazon.com: A Vision for 2012: Planning for Extraordinary Change,
Penny Kelly, N.D., was recommended by Petersen as “the most accomplished psychic [he has] found who can both visualize potential futures that are presently within the intentionality stream and has a good handle on time and when these futures might manifest themselves.” The story of Kelly got into doing this, and of the epochal wild card changes she saw when she did so is recounted in Robes – A Book of Coming Changes (2001). She is co-owner of Lily Hill Farm and Learning Center in SW Michigan, where she teaches workshops, maintains a counseling practice, and raises organic vegetables. She has written three other books: The Evolving Human (1997), The Elves of Lily Hill Farm (2005), and The Soil To The Stomach: Notes on Healing from Lily Hill Farm (forthcoming). Read a review of Robes here: www.amazon.com/Robes-Penny-Kelly/dp/0963293427, and listen to an interview here: www.ps-magazine.com/.../Sahar_Interviews_Penny_Kelly_About_Her_Book.
Come and be prepared for a briskly challenging presentation from which you will never think about the future (or futures research!), in quite the same way. Adequate time for Q&A/Discussion.

Members: $20, Non-Members $25
